This is normally defined as belief in one’s ability to achieve some goal or to perform well and it can be either quite general or specific to particular situations. Confidence can be undermined by depression, anxiety and negative beliefs.
The term self-esteem is used to describe a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value. Self-esteem can involve a variety of beliefs about the self, such as the appraisal of one’s own appearance, beliefs, emotions and behaviors. Self-esteem tends to be conditional leading people to feel good one minute while condemning themselves the next.
Unconditional self acceptance is a healthy alternative to self-esteem and means accepting yourself just as you are, a fallible human who can enjoy life no matter how poorly you perform and no matter who disapproves.
